What Does the Future Hold for Facial Recognition and AI Technology?
Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and facial recognition is becoming more fascinating for developers around the world. The cutting-edge technology such as facial recognition has broken many boundaries in the past decade – from unlocking your smartphone or prevent terrorism threats. The results are quite promising for the present and future of humanity.
The best part is that it’s still an on-going process. Which means there’s more to come from the technology. However, with plenty of advancements made through the technology around the world – what more does the future hold?
China Plans to Lead Facial Recognition
When talking about what China is doing with the current facial recognition and AI technology, it’s not hard to see the country using it for surveillance cameras. Currently, China is aiming to be the largest supplier of facial recognition security cameras. In fact, the country has already made more than 170 million CCTVs, along with the production of 400 million more to be commenced in the upcoming years.
These surveillance cameras are being used for various purposes such as catching criminals, lock and key technology and scanning faces for identity proof. In fact, some banks have introduced facial validation procedure for processing payment or withdrawing money from the ATMs. For example, if you’re shopping for a certain item and decide to pay with your credit card, the 3-D camera scanner at the self-service counter will validate your identity.
China’s AI and facial recognition operations are already going above and beyond. As compared to that, other countries are still taking their time to plan specific uses for it.
Japan Is Catching Up
The land of the rising sun is already making sufficient technology advances with facial recognition and has already scheduled plans to demonstrate many ways of applying it in an individual’s daily lifestyle.
For example, a vehicle production company has incorporated facial recognition with its brand of SUVs to detect if a driver is falling asleep or tired. The car is then set to take necessary actions to prevent an accident from taking place. Other than that, Japan is using AI-powered cameras to curb shoplifting.
In the future, Japan plans to utilize facial recognition in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It will be used to detect any trespassers or imposters before they enter the event area. The goal for this is to not rely on fake IDs and thus, increase security protocol.
The United Arab Emirates Has Promised Big Developments
Unlike other countries, the United Arab Emirates is taking the development of facial recognition in a subtle way. For example, the Dubai Airport has adopted a virtual aquarium that is mounted with at least 80 facial recognition cameras that are being used to examine people who violate the law. All this, without anyone knowing.
For street security operations, the U.A.E. Police and military personals are being supplied with facial recognition glasses that will be able to detect criminals, missing people and vehicles, only in a few seconds. So far, the technology is still in its beta stages, but is scheduled to be out in 2020.
What’s the Future of Facial Recognition?
Soon, there will be many opportunities for an easier and secure lifestyle available for the local public around the world. Various procedures such as opening a bank account, making payments or security control will be made easier with AI and facial recognition technology.
Currently, there are four categories where facial recognition will be most significant in the upcoming years: law enforcement and security, social media and the health sector. According to experts, the list of future development is said to be endless as this specific technology holds a lot of surprises.
